EXPLORING ILLOCUTIONARY ACT OF OPRAH WINFREY AND J.K. ROWLING IN OPRAH WINFREY SHOW EXCLUSIVE

Illocutionary act is one type of speech acts which refers to the attempt accomplish some communicative purpose and extra meaning utterance produced on basis its literal meaning. This paper investigated illocutionary in talk show used by Oprah Winfrey J.K Rowling. The focus this explore five types utterances Those are representative (reporting, stating, concluding), directive (ordering, asking requesting), commissive (offering, promising, pledging), expressive (praising, thanking, apologizing), declarative (deciding). writer qualitative method. To collect data, transcribed analyzed context classifications using discourse analysis approach. Rowling were based theory Searle (1969). findings showed that often use questions from as interviewer while interviewee clear utterances. Findings exemplified such thank you, pretty good, I couldn’t stop can be categorized thanking representative, praising expressive, deciding declarative.
